Get educated - Part 1

We all need to get educated and I don't just mean at school. I mean financially as well.

When your parents tell you to work hard at school its not for fun or because they like to nag you, its because they realise how important your education is. You need to get the best education you can possibly get. This will give you the best options when you finally leave school. If you left school years ago then its never too late. You can go back to evening class, you can do an open university course, you can do anything you want to. Education improves your work options in most cases, there are exceptions obviously, but in general the more qualified you are the better the options available to you.

A financial education can be learnt by anyone. You don't need an MBA or a fancy degree to learn how to manage your money. I constantly speak to people who are on a low salary who think that they have limited options when it comes to money. They think because my salary is higher than theirs then its easy for me to have lots of money. What they don't realise is that its all relative. I may earn 3 times more than them but my mortgage is probably 3 times more than theirs!

The Internet has lots of resources available for you to self educate on money matters. You just need to start looking for those resources.

Welcome to my new blog about women and finances. It's probably safe to say that we can all learn more about our finances. Gone are the days when women rely on men to keep and protect them from the outside world. We all need to take control ourselves because who knows a knight in shining armour might not come and if he does who wants to rely on him anyway!

I don't want you to think that I'm some raving feminist who dislikes men. I'm not, I'm a happily married mother, however I think that all women need to be in control of their money, understand their money and know how it works.

The first question to ask is why are we all so hesitant to talk about money?
It's not a bad thing to talk about yet most of us are hesitant to discuss our finances. Compared to some of things discussed at my workplace, which would make your hair stand on end, it would seem an easy subject to discuss and yet its not. I want to get the subject out there. I want it to be a subject we discuss over lunch. For all our sakes we need to start talking about money.

Money opens doors for you and you don't have to reach millionaire status to open those doors. You may want to retire early, you may want to travel, you may just want to work part time. If you start early or start late but wise up, then you can do anything you want to.
